The History of River Hills
This wonderful ranch began when Harold Steele purchased his first piece of land just Southwest of Platte, S.D. in 1991. What Harold started is now over 12,000 acres of the most incredible pheasant hunting land anywhere. The Steele family's passion for excellence is obvious in everything they do. Whether it is their HS Die & Engineering in Grand Rapids, MI, the ARCA racing team that Harold and son Tim built that led to Tim's winning 3 ARCA Remax Series National titles and being inducted into the Michigan Racing Hall of Fame, or River Hills Ranch, it is clear that Harold Steele accepted only world class success.
He carried this passion to developing one of the premier pheasant hunting properties anywhere. What started as a place for family, friends and business associates to hunt, soon lit a passion to have a commercial hunting experience second to none. Everything about River Hills reflects Harold's love and respect for the land, the wildlife and for western traditions. After River Hills Lodge hosted its first public hunt in 2006, word soon spread that it was a truly special place. Harold Steele passed away in 2011. Tim Steele has continued in the tradition that made this place special.
You can shoot pheasant in a lot of places, but only a few properties provide a total hunting experience. Everything about River Hills is about creating memories that will last a lifetime. The land, the hunting vehicles, the accommodations, the food and drink all reflect a dedication to excellence matched only by a dedication for wildlife conservation. For a truly special experience, come experience the passion of the hunt at River Hills Lodge.
